Public Response

Overall, the response to Project Loon has been incredibly positive. The public is excited about the possibilities Project Loon holds for various uses such as disaster recovery and low-cost Internet use (48). Despite this excitement, there have also been some setbacks and concerns that value consideration. For example, Google has not yet released a cost for this project, meaning that while the project seems exciting and innovative, the cost might not be worth the Internet accessibility (27). In addition, there have been several crashes of balloons in New Zealand, South Africa, and Washington State (32, 47). However, with these considerations in mind, Project Loon has already reached thousands of people and promoted so much change that the reward for reaching a fraction of the 4 million people without Internet, in my opinion, outweighs the risk of crashes and cost.
