Google Lens

Produced by Google X, Google Lens is a project that aims to assist people with diabetes by measuring the glucose levels in their tears. Teaming with pharmaceutical company Novartis, Google Lens aims to use low power microchips, electronic circuit sensors, and LED technology thinner than air (30). The lens reads a person’s glucose levels once per second and is thought to potentially revolutionize how diabetes is monitored (42). While the product has not yet been officially released to the public, Google Lens plans to connect to smartphones in order to transmit the data it collects and a prototype was released in January 2014. Google Lens plans to fit in with Google’s recently released Google Fit platform which tracks health metrics such as sleep and exercise on Android phones (40).
